A Word About Ingredients

A Word About Ingredients

Today I want to talk a bit about product ingredients. We carefully consider the sources of our supplies. We seek out options from suppliers with sustainability features, who use fair trade practices, and produce non GMO options.

I am not a fan of animal products in personal care items. Our staple ingredients include liquid oils of olives, palm, grapeseed, avocado, hemp, sunflower, argan, jojoba, sweet almond and castor. Our butters used include Shea, cocoa, kokum, mango and avocado. Common additives used are essential oils, honey, florals and herbs, coffee and grounds, walnut shell powder, turmeric powder, salts and sugars, various clays, pigments and micas.

We also consider packaging carefully, using compostable and naturally degradable materials whenever possible. Our labels don’t and won’t carry the words “organic,” or “certified organic.” To legally use these terms, a business must be certified by a USDA accredited certifying agent, or meet a threshold percentage of certified products along with ingredients on the NLAPS (National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances).

The FDA does not have a specific definition of organic for skincare, soap and cosmetics. Products must be safe, labeled correctly, and not misbranded, for example adding organic to the label without actual certification.  Misuse of the USDA organic seal or misrepresentation of a product’s organic status can lead to fines.

There are other labeling rules as well, which is why our labels will typically say “made with” as opposed to “ingredients.”

Lastly, none of our items will have claims on our packaging or marketing channels of treating or preventing any conditions or symptoms of disease, for example, eczema,  or claiming our products are hypoallergenic, unless they have been tested and substantiated.

We are committed to providing a quality product free of synthetic substances and preservatives as an alternative to mass produced commercial products.
